Overview

The two day Cutting Edge: Emergency Procedures cadaveric workshop for General Practitioners focuses on medical emergencies and improvising with ‘everyday’ equipment that can be substituted for medical equipment, especially in rural and remote areas. This enables the provision of a greater level of service to patients and the community living in these areas.

This two day hands on workshop offers:

Presentations and Cadaveric Practical Sessions:
  • Penetrating eye/orbit injury
  • Lacerated eye lid
  • Lateral canthotomy
  • Nasal packing
  • Nasal cautery
  • Drainage of quinsy
  • Surgical airway
  • Cricothyroidotomy
  • Tracheostomy
  • Haemostasis and burns skills
  • Vascular shunt
  • Ultrasound spinal scanning
  • Venous cutdown, Intraosseous infusion
  • Compartment syndrome and fasciotomy
  • Suprapubic catheter insertion
  • Pelvic binding 
  • Reducing a posterior dislocation
  • Intercostal catheter, thoracotomy
  • Burr hole and base of skull fracture
  • Mini-Craniotomy
  • Local anaesthetic infiltration (dental)
Presentations & Simulation Practical Sessions:
  • Surgical airway

  • Facial fractures reducing to secure airway
  • Spinal tap
  • Lumbar puncture
