About
The Cutting Edge: Practice Nurse Skills Training workshop is designed to offer nurses information and skills in procedural assistance. It is directed at nurses starting out in the community practice who have moved from a career in hospital wards or aged care, or those who are newly graduated and seeking a position in general practice.

Overview
This workshop is also appropriate for nurses who would like to streamline their treatment room and update their skills, perhaps before GP practice accreditation. CTEC acknowledges the educational contribution provided by the UWA School of Population and Global Health in the development of this workshop.

- The role of the Practice Nurse
- Treatment room setup
- Equipment and instrumentation
- Consumables selection and suitability
- Local anaesthesia
- Documentation required for medico-legal and accreditation purposes.
- Cleaning and sterilisation
- Procedural assistance with the GP from your practice
- Surgical scrub technique
Practical Sessions:
- Wound closure
- Dressings, old and new - what’s essential and practical
- Knot tying and suturing techniques
- Managing lacerations
- Patient positioning
- IV cannulation
Workshop Inclusions:
