This intensive workshop featuring cadaveric, live and synthetic models will assist in equipping participants with procedural skills for medical emergencies. It is suitable for ACEM Late Phase Advanced Trainees, Peri-Fellowship Registrars, Fellows and Junior Consultants in Emergency Medicine. Limited places are also available for rural General Proceduralists.

Overview

Key procedures covered in this workshop include ICC insertion, difficult airway management, suprapubic insertion, nerve blocks and CVC line insertion utilising ultrasound.

This hands-on skills training workshop aims to increase the knowledge and confidence of participants to perform a range of procedures including those which are not routinely performed in the clinical setting.  Participants will benefit from the expertise of senior faculty from Emergency Medicine. 

The workshop is highly relevant for doctors practising in emergency settings in peripheral, regional or austere environments. Participant places are restricted to 12 positions to maximise practical procedural time. 

 

Workshop Content 

Presentation and Practical Cadaveric Sessions:

  • ICC Chest Drains
  • POCUS
  • Nerve blocks utilising ultrasound - intercostal, digital and axillary
  • Suprapubic insertion covering kits and insertion

Cadaveric Demonstration: 

  • Intubation and airway management
  • Laryngoscopy
    • Video laryngoscopy
    • Flexible bronchoscopy
  • CICO and FONA
    • Cricothyroidotomy with anatomical dissection

Presentation and Live and Synthetic Models Practical Session: 

  • Laryngoscopy revision
  • Ultrasound guided CVC line insertion
  • Ultrasound guided nerve block
  • Suprapubic catheter insertion
