CTEC’s The Cutting Edge: Introductory Wound Suturing is a highly practical workshop aiming to introduce the GP, Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Nurse and Paramedic to the fundamental knowledge and techniques required for patient assessment, suturing and knot tying skills.

Overview

This workshop is of particular relevance for GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Department Nurses and Paramedics with limited clinical exposure to minor surgical techniques and those wishing to consolidate experience.  It is strongly recommended as a foundation suturing workshop for GPs wishing to attend CTEC’s The Cutting Edge: Managing Skin and Soft Tissue Injuries workshop.

The Cutting Edge: Introductory Wound Suturing workshop features a combination of didactic sessions, demonstrations and hands-on sessions utilising animal tissue and other simulation models. It includes a one hour free practice session. Participants will be provided with a fundamentals of instrumentation quiz prior to the workshop to aid in preparedness for the procedures outlined below.

Training Grants

The Australian Government is offering training grants of $2000 per day to rural and remote procedural and emergency medicine GPs to maintain their respective skills. Reapproval for this educational activity or a 1 Day Rural Procedural Grant in Surgery will be sought for the 2023-2025 Triennium.
